Chocolate Tiramisu (No Alcohol, No Coffee)
Ingredients
- Lady fingers42
- Hot chocolate4 cups
- Vanilla extract2 tsp
- Heavy cream1 cup
- Mascarpone16 oz
- White sugar divided2 Tbsp
- Chocolate custard1 ( look at recipe below)
- Cocoa powder1 Tbsp
Ingredients for Chocolate Custard
- White sugar1/4 cup
- Cornstarch3 tbsp
- Milk1/2 cup
- Heavy cream1/2 cup
- Chopped dark chocolate2 oz or 1/4 chocolate chips
- Egg yolks2
- Butter1 Tbsp
- Vanilla extract1/2
Instructions
- Mix in a bowl hot chocolate and vanilla extract.
- Dip lady fingers one at a time into the hot chocolate and arrange 14 of the lady fingers in a greased pan. They should form the bottom layer. To get your desired shape, break the lady fingers in half before dipping in the hot chocolate.
- Using a hand mixer, in a medium sized bowl beat together heavy cream and sugar until it forms stiff peaks.
- Fold in the mascarpone.
- Spread half of the mixture onto the bottom lady finger layer.
- Create another layer of lady finger using another 14 pieces. Dip in chocolate sauce one at a time.
- Top the second layer of lady fingers with chocolate custard.
- Top again with lady fingers dipped in hot chocolate sauce.
- Cover the top layer with mascarpone and refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hrs before serving.
- Dust cake with cocoa powder or use a vegetable peeler to shave chocolate onto the top.
For Chocolate Custard
- Whisk together sugar, cornstarch, milk, heavy cream and chocolate in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until mixture begins to bubble and thicken.
- Put the egg yolks in a small mixing bowl off to the side.
- Pour in a little of the heated chocolate mixture and beat rapidly for a few seconds.
- Then pour the entire egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the chocolate.
- Whisk together constantly and cook for an additional 90 seconds.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla until melted.
- Pour into a glass bowl and place in refrigerator to cool.
