The Best Snickerdoodles


INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/8 teapoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter with a wooden spoon, just to fluff it slightly. Add the cup of sugar, half of the flour, the egg, vanilla, baking soda, cream of tartar, baking powder and salt. Beat with wooden spoon until all ingredients are combined. Add remaining flour and beat until incorporated and holds together.
  2. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about an hour.
  3. Pre heat oven to 375 degrees farenheit.
  4. In a shallow bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of sugar and teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix together well.
  5. Once chilled, remove the dough from the refrigerator. Divide into 21-24 pieces and roll into balls about the size of walnuts. Roll each ball in the sugar/cinnamon mixture and place on cookies sheets about 3 inches apart. Press each ball very slightly with the bottom of a glass.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes until very lightly browned on the edges. Remove from oven and cool on rack for 2-3 minutes before removing from the cookie sheet.
  7. Store in an air-tight container or plastic bag.
